Childcare Options

Childcare East offers a variety of childcare options to clients and candidates in the UK and Internationally. We are here to help you during and after the selection process and happy to discuss your childcare solutions with an informal chat. We hope the following childcare options will help you in defining your requirements as a client or as a candidate.

Please note, that the net salaries quoted here are just a general guide which reflect the current market, the location, number of children, the hours worked and the level and the level of experience and qualifications of the individual candidates. The clients, as employers, are usually responsible for paying the employees tax and national insurance contributions.

THE ROLE OF THE NANNY

Nannies are qualified and/or experienced child carers. They are responsible for the mental and physical development of the children in their care and provide a safe and stimulating environment. They have sole charge, or shared charge with the mother or another nanny. They perform all .nursery duties. such as the preparation of healthy, nutritionally balanced meals for the children and keeping the bedrooms and playrooms neat and tidy. In addition they are responsible for organising indoor and outdoor activities, play dates, bathing, supervising homework if required, the washing and ironing of the children's clothes and first aid. Extra duties may be required (the school run, shopping, household laundry, cooking for the family) and should be discussed by both parties at the interview, prior to employment.

LIVE IN NANNIES

Live in Nannies work 10-12 hours per day from Monday to Friday with 1 or 2 nights babysitting per week. They can be required for 5 and a half days to 6 days per week and be .on call. during the night, all of which is reflected in the salary. Live in Nannies are provided with board and lodging. (sometimes a package that may include, a car, a nanny phone, gym membership etc)

Salaries:
London £300 - £450 net per week
Rest of UK £250 - £400 net per week
International £400 - £1000 net per week (plus package that may include flights home and medical insurance)

DAILY NANNIES

Daily Nannies work a structured 8 to 10 hours per day, from Monday to Friday and are provided with lunch and snacks. They are not usually asked to baby-sit in the evenings. If they are, an additional fee is agreed in advance.

Salaries:
London £375 - £550 net per week
UK £200 - £350 net per week

PART-TIME NANNIES AND WEEKEND NANNIES

We have a number of newly qualified childcarers and/or experienced nannies who are available to work part-time and particularly in the holidays. They may be continuing their professional development or wishing to supplement another part-time job (esp in.Essex)

Weekend Nannies usually work from Friday pm to Sunday pm on a live-in or daily basis. There is always a demand from London based families who often take the weekend nanny to their country home with them.

Salaries:
Part-time £8 - £12 net per hour (London/UK)
Weekend £300 - £350 net

SHORT TERM NANNIES

Short-term Nannies are extremely beneficial in filling a gap in your childcare requirements, during those times of the year where an extra pair of hands is needed. You maybe going on holiday, in hospital, or, your permanent nanny may be on sick or maternity leave and you may find you need extra cover. We have nannies who are looking for short-term work throughout the year.

HOUSEKEEPER/NANNIES

Each family's requirements will differ greatly in regard to the amount of time allocation needed for the nanny and housekeeping roles. Clients may request a mothers help to assist a parent at home, or for a parent/s who are working. A junior nanny on a first placement, or an experienced childcarer/housekeeper with mixed skills (prepared to cook, clean, iron, do laundry, shopping, childcare and driving) with related experience and excellent references would be considered for this role. If however, the majority of the work is childcare, then a qualified nanny willing to take on household duties may suit your requirements.

Salaries:
Live-in 10 to 12 hours per day £300-£400 net per week
Daily London 8 to 10 hours per day £400- £450 net per week
Daily in UK 8 to 10 hours per day £250- £350 net per week

NANNY SHARE ARRANGEMENTS

Nanny shares are a great solution to parents of one child. They can provide and ensure regular playmate for the child. The families pay an equal share of the nanny's wages and tax and keep the childcare costs down. The terms of employment need to be clearly defined and agreed by all parties in writing to avoid any future misunderstandings and for the nanny share to work well.

Salaries:
London £400-£550 net per week
UK £250-£350 net per week

NANNY / PA

Nanny/Personal Assistants usually work for families with older children who are in school. As well as their nanny duties, the nanny/pa, may act as the family's pa, or as pa to one of the parents. Their pa duties may include administration support, keeping diaries, organising household correspondence and paying household bills, booking flights and family holidays, supervising other household staff and construction workers, organising parties, booking outings and activities and taking telephone calls.

Salaries:
London (live-in/daily) £350-£550 net per week
UK (live-in/daily) £250-£400 net per week
International (Live-in only) £400-£600 net per week

GOVERNESS / TUTORS

Governess/Tutors are professional educators of children in private homes, usually where the first language is not English. They work for 5 or 6 days per week and the hours can vary greatly, depending on the individual family's requirements. They usually have a teaching background and are responsible for the intellectual and social development of the child or children in their charge. They teach English through formal and informal lessons, organise a variety of fun and educational activities, teach life skills such as etiquette and encourage cultural awareness and appreciation. They can also set up and implement a home-school if required, by utilising their knowledge, skills and experience from their teaching career, or can compliment the child's existing educational school programme.

A Governess/Tutor is provided with board and lodging (often separate accommodation) and is not expected to do household or nursery duties. Their prime role is to encourage the children to speak excellent English.

Salaries:
London £400-£600 net per week
UK £350-£550 net per week
International £600-£1000 net per week

FORMER AU PAIRS

Candidates who have worked formerly as Au Pairs in the UK and have been involved in the sole charge of children with at least 2 years experience, excellent English and impeccable references will be considered for registration with Childcare East.

NANNY / STEWARDESSES

Nanny/Stewardesses are qualified nannies who are comfortable and experienced on yachts. These positions do come up occasionally, but there is often a shortage of nannies who have the sailing experience. If your hobby is sailing and you work as a nanny, then this is a great opportunity for you.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

QUALIFIED NANNIES

These are nannies with a formal qualification in childcare, that has been awarded by an accredited examination board after a 2 year course of study that includes work placements (with continuous assessments) in nursery schools or private homes along with references obtained from these placements.

EXPERIENCED NANNIES

Some nannies may not hold a formal qualification, but have extensive childcare experience and excellent references (all checked by us during the screening process). Childcare East will register such candidates who have at least 2 years of continuous experience.

QUALIFIED NANNIES WITHOUT HOUSEHOLD EXPERIENCE

Nannies that have achieved a formal childcare qualification from being in full time education are often looking for their first household placements. Our clients often ask for a newly qualified nanny and trust that we will select the most suitable candidates for them. We offer continuous support to our clients and candidates alike through this process, by understanding the requirements of both parties.
